Workplace Mentoring Challenges

eLearning Branching Scenario

A branching, choice-based microlearning experience where learners step into the role of a mentor navigating five realistic challenges: focus, expectations, commitment, overdependence, and incompatibility. The goal was a learning experience that felt modern and human, giving users a safe environment to practice real mentoring decisions. Choices accumulate through a TrustScore variable that shapes how subsequent scenes unfold, with character reactions and emotional cues carrying feedback in place of a narrator. Visual design, typography, colour, and iconography were developed to brand specification, ensuring the experience feels native to the broader learning ecosystem while meeting accessibility standards.

Overall Structure

The learning experience follows Nya (mentor) and Ryan (mentee) through 5 different challenges, each presenting real-life situations that one could face as a mentor.

Each challenge contains

  1. A scene setting video for context

  2. A choice of how to proceed

  3. Consequences/feedback as well as opportunities for additional learning.

This highly structured format makes the experience easy for the learner to grasp, even after just the first challenge. Please see visual examples of each phase below

Setting the Scene

Each challenge opens with a short scene-setting video that establishes context and emotional stakes before the learner is asked to respond.

Each challenge has a different “theme-color” to help the learner differentiate the content. Colors are brand-aligned.

Learners choose from three responses, each reflecting a distinct mentoring approach. There's no narrator, the weight of the decision comes from the scene itself.

The Choice

The Consequence/Feedback

Choices land differently depending on the accumulated TrustScore, giving the same scene a different emotional register for different learners. Learners can also download tip sheets along the way for further learning.

The two videos below demonstrate a different outcome based on previous choices.
